RADFORD, Va. – Former Radford men's basketball player Cole Wilder (Wytheville, Va.) was honored with a post-graduate scholarship in the name of Dr. Betty Dore, who was presented The Distinguished Faculty Advising Award at the annual Faculty Convocation Thursday afternoon.
As tradition, a series of faculty awards sponsored by the Radford University Foundation were presented during the convocation. Each of the faculty honorees selected a deserving student recipient for a scholarship in their name.
“Cole is the epitome of a student-athlete,” said Dore, who also serves as Radford's NCAA Faculty Representative. “All the while he was practicing and playing on Division I Men's basketball team, he still graduated from his undergraduate major with a 3.52. He has a tremendous work ethic. He is now enrolled in the middle level teacher preparation program and will be working in a 6th grade social studies classroom in Pulaski Middle School this fall.”
Wilder is currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with licensure in middle level education.
“Cole Wilder is a special young man, said Highlander head coach Brad Greenberg. “It was an honor to coach him. He was an exceptional teammate and one of the most unselfish players and human beings I have ever known.”
A member of the Highlanders' 2009 Big South Championship squad, Wilder appeared in 76 games during his four-year career.
