
AUSTIN NOTCHES TOP-10, RADFORD FINISHES STRONG AT KIAWAH

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Behind a 1-under 71, sophomore Alexandra Austin recorded her eighth career Top-10 showing (tied for eighth) to guide the Radford women's golf team in the final round of the Edwin Watts / Kiawah Island Classic being contested on the resort's Oak Point (par 72, 5,907 yards) and Cougar Point (par 72, 6,001 yards) golf courses and hosted by the College of Charleston.
Entering the day in 23rd, Radford carded its fifth-best round of the season, 310, to move up two spots to 21st with a three-round ledger of 956 (317-329-310).
Using a final round 299, 36th-ranked Campbell nipped tournament host and 84th-ranked College of Charleston by three shots to claim its fourth team title of the season. Trailing by four strokes entering the final day, the Camels used four rounds in the 70s to shoot a three-round aggregate of 899 (301-299-299). The Cougars wrapped up second place at 902 (292-304-306).
Starting the round with a birdie at the par-5 fourth, Austin went on to chart two more to post her second-career sub-par round. In addition to her three birdies Tuesday, the sophomore completed the 54-hole tournament with a whopping nine. Those nine birdies led to a three-day total of 224 (78-75-71), one shy of her career-best mark of 223 shot at the 2011 Bison Invitational.
Paige Reese improved her total each day en route to a 240 (81-80-79), which placed her in a tie for 85th in the 172-player field. Finishing the day with a birdie at the fourth hole, Hayley Hammond gave the Highlanders three rounds in the 70s with her final round 79. Hammond tied for 104th at 244 (77-88-79).
Finishing in a tie for 144th was Kirsty Condon and Katie Parrott. Condon (81-87-87) and Parrott (87-87-81) both finished at 255.
Sharing the overnight lead with Campbell's Brooke Bellomy, CofC's Julia Neumann carded a 2-over 74 Tuesday to post a one-shot victory over Central Arkansas' Julia Roth. Her winning total of 219 (74-71-74) was just five shots better than Austin's ledger.
Radford returns to the links March 14-15 at the Bucknell Vegas Invite. The 54-hole event will be contest at the Paiute Golf Club Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.
