Sarah Phillips, who was hired as an assistant softball coach at Radford University in October of 2012, enters her second season as the program’s pitching coach. A two-time All-American and four-year standout at North Georgia College and State University, Phillips joined the Highlanders after serving as a graduate assistant at her alma mater for the 2011 season.
Â
In her first season with the Highlanders, she guided rookie pitcher Rachael Walters to a first-team all-conference selection.
Â
Phillips enjoyed one of the most prolific softball careers in NCAA Division II history. The two-time Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year finished her career as the league’s all-time leader in wins (124), appearances (164), starts (142), complete games (113) and innings (946.1) along with North Georgia’s record holder for strikeouts (911) and shutouts (45). Her wins rank sixth on the NCAA’s all-time list.
She was the main catalyst on a Saints squad that made three straight NCAA Division II College World Series appearances, which was most evident in 2010 when she won 44 straight games and was named the Ron Lenz Division II National Pitcher of the Year.
Â
In addition to her collegiate success, Phillips gained international experience when she was selected to the 2011 Canadian Senior Women’s National Team. She competed in the Scotiabank Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship, US World Cup of Softball and the Pan American Games, and helped Team Canada to a silver medal in the latter.
Â
Along with her duties as a graduate assistant coach, Phillips also served as an assistant during the 2011 season at Lumpkin County High School.
Â
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Phillips graduated from North Georgia in 2011 with a degree in middle grades education.
