
Bunter and Sears Have a Good Showing at Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, MD. – The Highlanders placed in the top two in 10 out of the 11 events they swam in including sophomore Alexis Butner (Charlotte, N.C.) posting two first place finishes and freshman Alexa Sears (Newport News, Va.) recording a first place finish also as the Highlanders fell to Mount St. Mary's 107-89 on Saturday afternoon.
Butner placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:10.64 and first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:22.03. Sears won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.16 and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle just tenths of a second behind Kelsey Albright of Mount St. Mary's.
Second place was all to kind to the Highlanders as they tallied seven second place finishes. Lauren Wensel (Christiansburg, Va.) placed second in the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle while Mandy Smith (Annandale, Va.) finished second behind her teammate Sears in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Ashley Maness (Conway, S.C.) posted two second place finishes, one in the 400-yard individual medley and the other in the 400-yard freestyle. Fellow freshman CeCe De la Garza (Blacksburg, Va.) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke, just two seconds behind Butner.
The Highlanders will be back in the action on November 21-22 when they compete in the Randolph-Macon Invite.
