
Friend and Turner Pace Highlanders in Defeat

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Whitney Friend (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and freshman Emily Turner (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical) paced the Radford swimming and diving team as they fell to Florida Gulf Coast, 173-78, on Tuesday afternoon at the FGCU Aquatic Center.
The Highlanders fall to 1-7, while the Eagles improve to 8-3.
Turner placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.77 and fourth in 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.72. Her best finish of the day came when she out touched Florida Gulf Coast's Katy Loubris for second place in the 200-yard individual medley.
Friend recorded a fourth place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:38.96 and a third place showing in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:25.37.
The Highlanders will be back in the pool on January 23 when they compete in the Davidson 4-Way.
