RADFORD, Va. – Radford extended both its home and overall winning streaks with a 5-2 victory over North Florida in non-conference men's tennis action Thursday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.
Winners of five straight, the Highlanders improve to 7-8 overall, while UNF falls to 15-6.
Radford, which has also won 38 consecutive home matches, grabbed an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles portion.
Trailing 3-2 on court one, the Highlanders' Ivan Salec and Thomas Dehaen won the next six games to extend their winning streak to six straight and improve to a team-best 10-1 on the spring.
Shortly after Radford's 8-3 decision at the top doubles position, Paul Boslet and Erik Finkenbrink clinched the team point with an 8-6 defeat of Hleb Maslau and Daniel Sotomarino at the No. 2 position. With the doubles point already decided, the Highlanders' Zack Watson and Igor Ogrizek held off Moritz Buerchner and Leonardo Nahar 8-7 (6).
North Florida's Taylor Albrect put the first singles point on the board and tied the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Paul Boslet.
Ranked 80th in the most recent ITA Singles Rankings, Salec put the Highlanders up for good thanks to a 6-2, 6-4 triumph on court one. The win was also the two-time all-conference performer's 11th straight as he moved to 11-4.
Just minutes after Salec's victory, Ogrizek and Dehaen clinched the match for Radford with straight-set wins of their own at No. 3 and 2, respectively.
Like Salec, Ogrizek stretched his winning streak 11, while recording his 12th singles victory of the season.
Behind 5-2 in the opening set, Dehaen didn't drop a game the rest of the way as the freshman rallied past Sotomarino, 7-5, 6-0.
Nahar claimed the only other singles win for the Ospreys with a three-set (3-6, 6-2,10-8) decision at the fifth spot.
Radford will continue its three-match homestand Friday with a noon dual against No. 69 UNC Wilmington.
