MEN’S TENNIS FINISHES SPRING BREAK PERFECT; DEFEATS TULANE, 5-2

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Radford extended its winning streak to six straight and put the finishing touches on a perfect “Spring Break” trip with a 5-2 victory over Tulane in non-conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
Winners of nine of their last 10, the Highlanders improved to 10-3, while Tulane dropped its fifth consecutive falling to 5-7 overall.
After winning at positions two and three to claim the doubles point, Radford extended its lead to 3-0 with convincing straight-set wins from Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt) and Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School) on courts four and three, respectively. It was Meulemans ninth straight win as he improved to 10-3 on the spring, while Ogrizek moved to 9-3.
Trailing 3-0, the Green Wave got wins from Joe Young (6-1, 7-5) and Adam Bernstein (7-5, 6-4) to cut the deficit to one.
Like Meulemans, No. 67 Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) recorded his 10th win of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at the top singles position to clinch the match for the Highlanders.
Radford's final singles triumph came from sophomore Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) at the fifth position, 7-5, 6-2
The Highlanders, who began the spring with 13 straight road contests, will open their 2011 home slate with a 9 a.m. match against North Florida Monday followed by a 3 p.m. dual with Emory & Henry.
