BLACKBURG, Va. – No. 63 Radford ran its winning streak to 11 consecutive with a hard-fought 4-0 victory over George Washington in non-conference men's tennis action Saturday evening at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.
The blanking was the third consecutive and their 16th dating back to the 2009 campaign as the Highlanders improved to 15-3 overall, while dropping the Colonials to 11-7.
With the doubles competition tied at one match apiece, Radford's first-year duo of Nick Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong / Cams Hill School) and Joe Mills (England / Cardinal Newman Catholic) clinched the crucial team point with a 9-8 decision on court three.
The Highlanders other doubles win came from Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School) and Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt) at the No. 2 spot.
Sayer extended his club's lead to 2-0 with a straight-set (7-6, 6-0) win over Christopher Kushma.
A day after recording his 100th career singles win, Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) put Radford one point away from the team victory with a come-from-behind win over Ugur Atalay on court one.
Shortly after Salec's team-leading 15th win of the spring, Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) clinched the dual with his 14th singles triumph, a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the final position.
Radford will play its final regular season road contest Thursday at James Madison.
