SALEC FALLS TO NEVOLO IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

STANFORD, Calif. – Radford's Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) fell to No. 15 Dennis Nevolo of Illinois, 6-3, 7-6 (3), Wednesday in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Singles Championships at the Taube Family Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University.
The program's only four-time all-conference singles and doubles selection, Salec concludes his Highlander career with 107 victories, which is second most in school history.
In addition to his 31-7 record and second straight NCAA Singles Championship appearance, Salec's 2010-11 season was highlighted by winning the main draw of the UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational in September.
Over the last two seasons Salec has been named Big South Player of the Week nine times.
This year marked the sixth straight season a Highlander has been selected to take part in the NCAA Championships.
Nevolo improves to 27-13 on the season and advances to the round of 32 to face the victor of the match between Daniel Nguyen (USC) and Artem Baradach (SMU).
