2013 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE: DON BURGESS '94

On Oct. 18, 2013, Radford University inducted five Highlander Student-Athletes into the Athletics Hall of Fame during a dinner and ceremony held in the College of Business and Economic's multipurpose room. Let's meet men's basketball standout Don Burgess.

A first-team All-Big South selection in 1994, Don Burgess finished his career with 1,452 points, which at the time, was second on the Radford scoring list. This total currently ranks sixth on the all-time list for the Highlanders.

More than just a scoring threat, the 1994 graduate also ranked in the top-10 in career steals (5th-162), rebounds (5th-614), and assists (9th-231) when his career ended.  These totals currently place him sixth on the all-time steals list and 10th in rebounds. Burgess owns the Radford record for career free throw percentage as well (.842). During his career, the Highlanders posted a 48-4 record inside the Dedmon Center, including the only undefeated home season since becoming a Division I program in 1984-85 (13-0 in 1993-94).

A native of Harrisonburg, Va., Burgess is entering his sixth season as the head coach at Bridgewater College. Prior to his first head coaching job, Burgess held Division I assistant coaching positions at VMI, Coastal Carolina, High Point and UCF. Burgess is also a 2011 Harrisonburg High School Hall of Fame inductee.
