FREDERICKSEN TOPS FIELD TWICE AGAINST CAMPBELL IN CCSA OPENER

RADFORD, Va. – Sarah Fredericksen won both butterfly events and Radford posted eight top-3 finishes, but the Highlanders were defeated by Campbell, 191-71, in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association opener for both squads on Saturday afternoon from the Dedmon Center Natatorium.

Fredericksen topped the field in both the 100 and 200 butterfly with times of 59.59 and 2:08.52, her second and third wins of the young season. She also put in a third-place finish in the 1000 free (10:57.24).

Senior Jessica Frazelle, sophomore Mary Flinn and senior Haley Schweitzer posted runner-up finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:18.10), 100 backstroke (1:01.7) and 200 breaststroke (2:33 respectively. Schweitzer also added a third-pace showing in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.78).

Earning third-place showings with personal-best swims were freshmen Lindsey Anderson and Elena Acevedo personal-best swims in the 200 butterfly (2:17.80) and 200 freestyle (2:00.25). Acevedo's time is now the ninth best in program history.

Rookies Marinda Kitchen and Allison Grecco added personal bests for the Highlanders in the 200 free (2:04.01) and 200 back (2:23.49), respectively.

The Highlanders closed out the meet with a third-place finish. The 200 freestyle squad consisting of freshman Laura Bradley, Flinn, Acevedo and sophomore Yvonne Smith touched the wall in 1:44.77.

Radford returns to the pool next Saturday, Oct. 26 traveling to VMI for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet.
