WOMEN’S TENNIS DROPS SPRING BREAK FINALE TO GONZAGA

ORLANDO, Fla. – Sophomore Taylor Newman won for the fourth straight outing, but she was the lone Highlander to record a point as the Radford women's tennis team fell, 6-1, to Gonzaga in its spring break finale Friday at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.
After the Bulldogs (9-4) won the doubles point, Newman delivered the equalizer at No. 2 singles as she downed Kylie Peek to move to 5-4 when playing in the second slot. The Zags went ahead 3-1 following wins on courts three and five.
Gemma Valls did everything she could to keep Radford (3-9) alive in the match, but her counterpart, Katie Edwards, outlasted the sophomore (7-6, 7-5) in a tightly contested battle at the top flight to clinch the victory for Gonzaga.
The Highlanders return to the New River Valley for a pair of home duals next week. Radford hosts Longwood in its home opener Wednesday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. N.C. Central visits the Radford University Tennis Complex a day later for a 3:00 p.m. match with the Highlanders.
