RADFORD CONCLUDES CALIFORNIA TRIP WITH 4-0 LOSS TO LMU

RADFORD, Va. – Despite forcing three singles matches to three sets and winning a doubles bout, the Radford men's tennis team was shut out, 4-0, by Loyola Marymount Friday afternoon at the LMU Tennis Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Partnering for the first time this year, Nicholas Sayer and Joe Mills outlasted Luke Bohuslav and Daniel Simko, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. However, the Lions (6-5) answered with wins on courts one and three to secure the doubles point.

Although LMU prevailed in three singles contests to clinch the victory, the Highlanders (1-7) showed tremendous effort in the other three matches. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker to David Doehring, Sayer tied his battle on court one with a resounding 6-0 triumph in the second stanza.

Patrick O'Keefe followed in similar fashion at the second spot, falling 6-1 in the opening frame to Todd Volmari. Then the junior delivered a 6-3 triumph in the second set to set up the extra action. Janken Thoen used a break to earn a 6-4 first-set win against Simko on court six. He could not put Radford on the board, however, losing 6-3 in the second set.

Before returning to campus, RU will clash with No. 44 Elon, Sunday. Action gets underway at 1 p.m. from the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center in Elon, N.C.
