BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Radford volleyball team outscored Gardner-Webb 50-36 in the final two sets en route to a three set victory over Gardner-Webb at Paul Porter Arena on Friday night.

The first set began back-and-forth, but Radford went on a mini 4-0 run down 14-13 midway in the set. The run gave the Highlanders a 17-14 lead. Gardner-Webb came back and tied the set at 21. Radford scored four of the next five points and a Maddie Palmer kill ended the first set 25-22.

That's the closest the Runnin' Bulldogs would get at the end of each set. With the second set tied at 13-all, the Highlanders went on an 11-3 run to take a 2-0 set lead. Back-to-back kills by Stephanie Neast and Palmer gave Radford a 17-13 lead. A kill by Neast, Palmer and Amaya Rousseau put the Highlanders up six. Each team scored two more points, but Rousseau, Valerie Gonzalez and Mallory McKnight gave Radford the 25-16 victory in the second set.

In the third set the Highlanders jumped out to an 11-6 lead thanks to six kills and five GWU errors. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored three of the next four, then Radford took off with a 5-0 run taking a 17-9 lead. Later in the set, Gardner-Webb made a push cutting the Highlander lead to five, 23-18. McKnight and Neast got two kills to win the set, 25-18 and clinched the 3-0 sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Highlanders had three players with double-digit kills. Maddie Palmer led with 15 kills, while Stephanie Neast and Valerie Gonzalez had 11.
• Gonzalez recorded an astonishing .526 hitting percentage and Palmer recorded a .323 hitting percentage.
• Amaya Rousseau recorded six kills and had a .556 attack percentage. She also recorded one block.
• Haley Kleespies led all players with 40 assists and Alyssa Carruth picked up two of the four Highlander service aces.
• Radford had 17 more kills than Gardner-Webb, 49-32. Radford also picked up 34 digs to GWU's 30.
• The Highlanders also recorded a .302 hitting percentage as a team compared to Gardner-Webb's .209.Â
