
VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS HAMPTON TO NOTCH FIFTH STRAIGHT VICTORY

Hampton, Va.- - -The Radford women's volleyball team won their fifth straight match as they defeated Big South foe Hampton in straight sets, 25-14, 29-27, 25-12, on Saturday afternoon. Radford, who improved to 18-3 overall and 10-2 in the conference, hit .288 for the match and limited the hosts to a .075 mark. Â

Junior middle Mallory McKnight turned in a strong all-around performance with 11 kills, four blocks, and four service aces. Freshman Lilijana Henderson continued her recent surge with 10 kills and junior Stephanie Neast added nine winners. Senior Haley Kleespies distributed 36 assists and freshman Grace Green came up with 21 digs.
Hampton dropped to 7-15 overall and 2-10 in the conference.
FIRST SET
The Highlanders went on a 12-1 run, spurred by four kills by Henderson, to grab a 16-4 lead. Hampton closed to within 21-14, however, Radford scored the final four points capped by a pair of kills by McKnight.
SECOND SET
The Highlanders trailed 17-7 but went on a 15-5 spurt to even the frame at 22. Kylie Tuxford capped the enormous stretch with a pair of kills. Despite getting even, Radford still had to fight off three set-point opportunities by Hampton but they were never flustered. A kill by Valerie Gonzalez gave the visitors one of their largest comebacks in recent memory.
THIRD SET
Radford trailed early, 8-7, but went on another large run to take control of the set. This time it was a 15-3 spurt that reversed the early deficit.
MOMENT THAT MATTERED
The Highlanders trailed 17-7 in the second set but went on an incredible, 15-5 run to knot the score at 22. Â They also managed to overcome three set-points by the Pirates.
