DURHAM, N.C. – Radford improved to 2-1 on the season after another dominating performance over an opponent from the Tar Heel State as the Highlanders swept through N.C. Central for a 7-0 victory Thursday afternoon.
The Highlanders start the season 2-1 for the first time since 2009, when Radford opened the season 4-2 on their way to a 12-10 overall record.
"It's good to get another win on the road," said head coach Jessica Giuggioli. "We competed well today and were decisive in the key moments."
Not sporting a duo in No. 3 doubles, Radford captured the doubles point quickly as the team of Drousile Dzeubou and Lotti Meszaros opened with a 6-0 decision in No. 2 doubles. Natalie Sayer and Tyler Blalock followed with a 6-1 victory.
N.C. Central forfeited No.6 singles, so Radford jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Jeanine Acierto continued the quick work with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lauren Mullis in No. 5 singles. The match was clinched by Sayer blanking Maru Berghaus 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles.
Radford's longest sets of the day came in No. 1 singles as Dzeubou collected a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over Jamie Rogers
