
RADFORD FALLS TO HIGH POINT IN THREE SETS

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team fell to High Point in three sets on Saturday inside the Dedmon Center.

SET ONE
Both teams were tied at four when High Point went on a 7-2 run and took an 11-6. Radford answered back with three points and cut the deficit to two. Three kills and an attack error later, the Panthers took a 15-9 lead. Mallory McKnight picked up a kill and HPU scored two more for a 17-10 lead. The Panthers ended the set on an 8-5 run and went on to win 25-15.

SET TWO
Set two saw some of as Radford took a 3-2 lead and both teams were back and forth until midway through the set. The Panthers took a 15-9 lead and Radford only scored six more points in the set. With a 22-15 lead, High Point got a kill by Abby Broadstreet, a service by Jenna Weidner and a Highlander attack error gave HPU a 25-15 second set victory. The Highlanders hit -.118 in the second set.

SET THREE
High Point scored the first two points of the set and didn't look back. The lead grew to 8-3, but the Highlanders kept chipping away. Down 18-12, two Panther errors cut the deficit to four. After an HPU point, a Kylie Tuxford made it a 19-14 game and a Broadstreet error forced High Point to call a timeout with a three point lead. Radford cut the set to as low as two after that, 21-19, but High Point scored four of the last five points.

STAT OF THE MATCH
The Highlanders only had three blocks compared to High Point's nine. The Highlanders also committed 24 errors, compared to 11 errors.

STAT LEADERS
Stephanie Neast led the Highlanders with eight kills, while Haley Kleespies had 28 assists. Madison Smith led all players with 13 kills.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will host Hampton this Friday, Oct. 5 at the Dedmon Center, marking the first time the two programs will go head-to-head as conference rivals. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start. The Pirates will enter the contest with a 6-8 record including a 1-3 clip against Big South competition. They are 1-5 on the road and have dropped four of their last five matches.
