MEN’S TENNIS SUFFERS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON AT UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Radford men's tennis team had an early lead, but ultimately fell short to UNCG, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Highlanders (1-1) had a 2-1 lead, but lost three of their last four single matches. Roger Rogowski defeated Pierre-Olivier Lassalle in two sets on court 4, which tied the match at two. Yevhen Sirous and Alexandros Caldwell were the next two players to finish their matches, but were on the short end of the as the Spartans clinched the match, 4-2.
Matko Varga ended the day on a high note with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Logan Blaser on court 6 to make it a 4-3 final score.
Radford won the doubles point that gave them a 1-0 lead. Michiel Meekers and Caldwell won their doubles match, which was the first to end. Then Varga and Andres Silva, who made his first appearance as a Highlander, clinched the point with a 6-2 victory.
Court 2 was the first singles match to finish as Rodrigo Magalhaes lost to Nico Grewe 6-1, 6-2. Meekers gave the Highlanders the lead once again, 2-1, when he defeated Cooper Wyatt, 6-4, 6-2, on court 5.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Varga won his doubles match and his singles match on Friday. He is the only Highlander that has multiple wins in doubles and singles play. Meekers is the only other Highlander that is unbeaten in singles play.
UP NEXT
The Highlanders have a quick turnaround and will face Belmont Abbey on Saturday at 11 a.m.
