
MEEKERS COMES UP CLUTCH WITH CLINCHER OVER DAVIDSON IN 4-3 WIN

RADFORD, Va. – Michiel Meekers clinched the match in an emphatic way with an ace on court 4, which led the Highlanders to a 4-3 victory over Davidson on Sunday afternoon.

With the match all tied at three, it all came down to Meekers on court 4. He had a 7-6 (8-6) victory in the first set in which he had to battle back to get. Then he came up clutch with by scoring the final two points, including the clinching ace, in a 6-3 second set victory that sealed the match.

The tide started to turn when Alexandros Caldwell picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory on court 3. It was the first singles win of the day for Radford and cut into Davidson's lead, 3-2.

Moments later Andres Silva defeated Brooks Green 7-5, 6-2 on court six and tied the match at three. That's when Meekers took over and gave Radford its sixth home victory of the season and the Highlander's 11th total win.

Radford began the day with a come-from-behind doubles victory as Yevhen Sirous and Rodrigo Magalhaes clinched the point for Radford with a 7-5 victory. Unfortunately, the duo was the first to drop their singles matches, which gave Davison a 2-1 lead.

The Wildcats (11-6) extended their lead to 3-1 with a victory on court 5 until Radford won the final three points.

Sunday's win gave Radford more wins this season than it did all of last year. Two of this season's wins include a pair of conference matches. Last year, six of the 10 Radford victories came against Division II or lower opponents, whereas only two wins have come against non-Division I opponents this season.
