RADFORD FALLS TO PRESBYTERIAN IN INTENSE SENIOR DAY MATCH

RADFORD, Va. – It was one of the longest and most intense matches at the Radford Tennis Complex all season, but the Highlanders fell 5-2 to Presbyterian on Senior Day.

The intensity was at 10 from the first serve. Each team won a doubles point with the final court – court 3 – yet to finish. Presbyterian was one 6-5 in the tiebreaking point when one of the Blue Hose players appeared to hit the net with his racquet. Matko Varga and Andres Silva stopped playing because they thought the point was over. However, nothing was called, and PC won the final doubles match and took a 1-0 lead.

That only increased the intensity in the singles matches. Yevhen Sirous tied the match at one with a win on court 1 until the Blue Hose regained the lead with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win on court 2. The final four matches went into a third with three ending in tiebreakers.

Andres Silva fell in the first set but bounced back and took a pair of 6-4 wins in the final two sets. That tied the match at two.

Michiel Meekers and Alexandros Caldwell were honored prior to first serve as the only two seniors on the roster. Sadly, their Senior Day didn't go as planned as they both fell in three-set tiebreakers. That gave the Blue Hose a 4-2 clincher and gave Radford its first home loss of the season.

Matko Varga was looking to make it a 4-3 game but couldn't pull through and fell 7-6 (7-5) in the final set.
