Close Match Slips Away Late Against Davidson

RADFORD, Va. – Radford (5-4) fell in a tight match Sunday afternoon 4-3 to Davidson.

The doubles point was tightly contested to start off the cold afternoon. Davidson was able to take court three, but Radford battled back and took court one 6-3 thanks to Salma Loudili and Malin Falk. Melissa Ifidzhen and Priscilla Stojanovska were in a close battle on court two that went to a tiebreaker, before the duo ultimately fell 7-6(4).

With Davidson owning a 1-0 lead, the Highlanders looked to mount a comeback in singles play. Davidson was able to build a 3-0 lead by taking courts four and six, but Falk picked up her second win of the day on court two winning 6-3, 6-2.

Radford needed all three remaining courts to stay alive. Davidson was able to get the clinching point on court five, however. Emily Brandow was able to pick off court three in an intense battle. Brandow won the first set, but fell in the second, and came back from trailing in the third set to win 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Loudili forced a third set on court one in the final court to finish on the day. Loudili battled hard and was able to win 6(4)-7, 6-3, 6-4 to give Radford its third singles court of the day.

The women are back on the home courts this Wednesday when they play host to UNC Greensboro.
