
Men’s and Women’s Tennis Collect Numerous ITA Academic Awards

RADFORD, Va. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Monday afternoon that both the men's and women's tennis programs at Radford had earned All-Academic team awards. Ten players between both the men's and women's programs were also named ITA Scholar Athletes.
Representing the Highlanders' men's tennis team on the scholar athlete list were five players. Aditya Balsekar, Karl Katlaps, Raphael Mujan, Andres Silva and Demis Taramonlis were all named Scholar Athletes. This is Katlaps' third-straight year earning the honor, while Silva caps of earning the award in each of his four seasons at Radford.
Tennis student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2022, 933 Division I Men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 163 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
On the Highlanders' women's tennis team there were also five players represented. Emily Brandow, Malin Falk, Marielle Leahy, Camryn McClure and Ameek Batth were all named Scholar Athletes. Brandow was named scholar athlete for the second year in a row while McClure and Leahy were both named scholar athletes for the third time in their careers. Falk made it four years straight as a scholar athlete with her naming this season as well.
Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2022, 1,517 Division I Women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 250 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, an athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.5 for the current year. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, the program must have a GPA of 3.2 or above including all varsity letter winners for the current season.
