Women Picked Second, Men Projected Fourth in Big South Cross Country Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference released its 2022 Men's and Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll on Monday afternoon with the Radford women's team picked to finish second and the Radford men's squad projected to finish fourth amongst the Big South's 10 institutions that compete in cross country.

This preseason poll marks the second consecutive season the women's program has received a first-place vote and is the team's highest preseason ranking since 2002. The men's fourth place ranking is tied for their highest selection since 2017. The 2022 fall preseason poll now marks four straight seasons being picked to finish within the top-five for the women and three straight seasons for the men.

Seven of the women's team's votes landed them in the second spot, although one voter did pick the Highlanders to place first. Radford's 87 points were a full 10 points more than third-place Charleston Southern and 23 points above fourth-place Campbell. High Point was named the preseason favorite with nine first-place votes and 99 total points.

On the men's side, selections for the Highlanders were spread out with three third-place votes, four fourth-place votes, one fifth-place vote, and two sixth-place votes. The team's 68 points were just eight shy of UNC Asheville and seven points clear of Campbell. Charleston Southern was named the preseason favorite with eight first-place votes while High Point and Campbell each garnered a first-place vote of their own.

Radford is scheduled to open its fall season on September 1st when it hosts the Radford Relays. The Big South Championships will be hosted by Longwood on October 29th this time around.
