
Radford Knocks Off UMES In Saturday Matinee

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Attack error totals told the entire story as the Radford volleyball team bounced back from a first-set loss to earn a 3-1 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday.

With a quick glance at the stat sheet, attack errors will jump off the page as the Shorehawks committed 27 mistakes while the Highlanders had just 11 to their name. Some of those errors were self-inflicted, but Radford played a big part in it as well with 11.0 total blocks – the team's second most of the season.

Head Coach Sherisa Livingston deployed a new defensive strategy, pairing Summer Campbell and Tytianna Roberts together and the duo delivered, posting six and five blocks respectively. Emma Young and Sophie Paspal also posed a challenge above the net, recording three blocks apiece.

Young was practically perfect in the match, providing Radford with 12 kills on zero errors for a .462 hitting percentage. Paspal (9 kills, 1 error, .400), Roberts (7 kills, 0 errors, .438), and Crystal Childs (7 kills, 3 errors) each added a scoring punch of their own.

The Highlanders weren't quite locked in to begin the match, dropping the first set by a score of 25-20. The squad looked much more cohesive over the next three sets however, flipping the script to cruise to a victory and improve to 4-5 on the season.

The Highlanders head to Lynchburg, Va. next weekend to play in a Liberty-hosted tournament. Radford takes on Eastern Michigan on Friday, Sept. 16 at Noon to kick things off and then goes up against the Flames at 6 pm. A Radford-Coppin State matchup on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. closes out the trip.
