RADFORD, Va. – After capturing a win at the Radford Relays to open the season, the Radford women's cross country team sprung into last week's USTFCCCA rankings. The Highlanders continue to be one of the nation's top teams, claiming the No. 15 spot in the Southeast Region as they remain ranked for the second consecutive week.
Radford swept the podium in both of its first two races. A trio of teams covered the podium in the season opener before three different Highlanders paced the field at the Lancer Pink Invite last weekend.
At the Radford Relays, the group of
MegAnne Gilmore (11:34.4),
MacKenzie Gardner (11:59.2) and
Megan Cash (12:26.4) won the race as the only team that broke the 36-minute mark with a time of 35:59.9.
Sophie Magson earned the victory at the Lancer Pink Invite, posting a final time of 18:35.3. Her teammate
Lucy Thornton finished just behind her as she recorded a time of 18:37.8 to place second. A sub-19-minute performance from
Chloe Wellings (18:42.6) helped the Highlanders secure all three spots on the podium and continue their succession of top finishes.
The team returns to action on Friday when they travel up the road to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational.
