BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford men's and women's cross country teams returned to action on Friday, competing in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational. Both teams finished in the top ten as the women placed seventh and the men finished in ninth position.
The event was held at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course on the campus of Virginia Tech. Following the alumni run, the women opened the evening with a 6,000-meter race before the men closed things out with an 8,000-meter event.
MEN'S RESULTS
Ethan Gear paced the Highlanders on the day, finishing the race with a final time of 26:36.6. The freshman continued his strong start to the season as he was Radford's highest scorer.
Just one second separated
Luke Richards (26:42.2),
Alejo Cobos (26:42.9) and
Sam Sikora (26:43.2). The trio finished back-to-back-to-back to add to Radford's team total.
Nick McCumsey posted a time of 27:21.8 to round out the scoring for the Highlanders.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
Abby Seigel recorded a time of 23:49.6 to lead Radford's efforts. Her sub-23-minute performance helped fuel the Highlanders.
Less than one minute was the difference for the remainder of Radford's scorers.
Savannah Hoff was the second Highlander to cross the line, tallying a final time of 24:10.4 and
Kate McLearen's time of 24:34.3 was good enough for third on the team.
Rachel Millirons (24:42.0) and
MacKenzie Gardner (25:05.3) both finished on the score sheet for Radford as well.
UP NEXT
Radford will have a couple weeks off before its next race. The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 in the Live in the Lou meet at the University of Louisville.
