LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford volleyball team saw its offense held in check in a 3-0 loss to Coppin State on Saturday in the final non-conference match of the season.
Â
The Highlanders searched for answers across all three sets but failed to come up with any as the Eagles earned a 39-to-19 advantage in kills. Sophie Paspal and Grace Tulevech led Radford in kills with four apiece while Fiona Baker was only able to deliver 11 assists.
Â
Defense kept each game relatively close as 15 different players tallied at least one dig, including a team-high seven from both Shelby Hernandez and Kennedy Robinson. Radford also out-blocked Coppin State, 7-to-3, with Tytianna Roberts involved in five of them.
Â
Taylor Jefferson set a new season and career high with three service aces, while Madison Monahan, Tori Britton and Miranda Howard each had one ace as well.
Â
Following two controlling victories put Coppin State ahead 2-0, the Highlanders nearly stayed alive with a win in the third set. The Eagles had other ideas however, using a 6-0 run to come from behind and snatch away the final game of the day.
Â
Coppin State was forced to overcome 25 attacking errors as Radford held them to a hitting percentage of just .133.
