Men’s Tennis Falls in Series of Close Battles Against UNC Greensboro

RADFORD, Va. – In a match that saw a handful of tiebreakers and multiple singles battles go three sets, Radford fell on the odd end of a 7-0 loss in their home opener to UNC Greensboro Wednesday afternoon.

Doubles play got off to a hot start for the Highlanders, but the team wasn't able to hold on for the early advantage. Robert Hagen and Filippo Marangoni were dominant in Radford's lone win of the day taking care of business with a 6-2 win on court three.

Tom Saporta and Manfredi Vergine were up 4-1 early on court two, but ultimately fell 6-4. Guilherme Severin and Charles Courteau were also in a tight battle on court one before ultimately falling in a tiebreaker 7-6(2) which gave UNC Greensboro the early 1-0 lead.

UNC Greensboro would earn straight set victories on courts three and four to grow their lead to 3-0. Vergine went up early in his match on court six, but ultimately fell 6-3, 2-6, 3-6 for the 4-0 clinch. Saporta battled hard through three sets, but also ultimately fell 7-6(3), 4-6, 0(4)-1. Severin's match on the top flight also went to a tiebreaker set and was a close finish 6-4, 5-7, 4-6.

Radford's is on the road this weekend for back-to-back matches on Friday and Saturday down south. Action begins Friday at Georgia Southern with a 1 p.m. start.
