Vergine and Saporta Earns Singles Victories over Campbell

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's tennis program fell 5-2 to Campbell on the home courts Saturday afternoon as Manfredi Vergine and Tom Saporta picked up strong singles victories in the decision.
After the Camels jumped out to a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles points with wins on all three courts, Radford turned its focus to singles for some hard-fought matches. Saporta had the first win of the day for the Highlanders as he led all afternoon for an eventual 6-2, 6-3 win on court two.
Vergine had the highlight of the match in his straight set victory that held more than it first appears. After taking the first set 6-4, Vergine found himself down 5-1 in the second set but didn't back down. He battled all the way back not dropping a single game to seal the win 6-4, 7-5.
The Camels would clinch the match, however, taking wins on singles courts one, three, four and six for the 5-2 final.
The Highlanders return to action next weekend for another round of conference play. Radford visits Presbyterian on Saturday, March 23rd for a 1 p.m. first serve.
