Women’s Cross Country Places Third, Men Fifth, as Highlanders Earn Multiple Awards at Big South Championships

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Radford men's and women's cross country programs competed strong at the Big South Championships Friday morning with the women's program placing third and the men's fifth. Sophie Magson and Charlie Dance both were also named to all-conference awards lists while Hayat Khan took home the men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year nod and Delaney Eller earned the women's Newcomer of the Year award.

POSTSEASON HONORS
At the awards ceremony following the two races, the Highlanders took home a collection of hardware for their efforts during the 2025 season.

Khan earned the men's Scholar Athlete of the Year award after accumulating a near-perfect 3.98 GPA while dual majoring in Chemistry and Math. Khan has been a consistent top five finisher for the Highlanders throughout his career while also excelling in the classroom. Earlier this season the senior set a new PR for the 6K while helping Radford grab a second-place finish at the Virginia Tech Invite. Khan is the third men's Highlander to ever earn the award.

Transferring into the program and making a huge impact on the day, Eller was presented the Big South's Newcomer of the Year award thanks to her finish in 15th. Eller becomes the first Highlander to ever earn the award.

Sophie Magson capped her incredible season earning first-team all-conference honors thanks to her sixth-place finish. The postseason award is the first in her career as Magson becomes the 11th Highlander over the last six seasons to place in the top 14 finishers at the Big South Championship.

With his individual finish in sixth, Charlie Dance was also named to the first-team all-conference list. The postseason award is the first in Dance's career and marked the second straight season the Highlanders have had an all-conference honoree.

Katelyn Campbell was named to the women's all-academic team after her strong sophomore campaign with the Highlanders which included etching her name into the record books. While excelling in the classroom with a 3.96 GPA as a nutrition major, Campbell set a program top 10 mark in the 4k while helping Radford claim a meet title at the Virginia Tech Invitational.

ON THE COURSE
Starting the morning off was the men's program who would place fifth as a team behind the strong run of Dance. Placing sixth overall to earn a spot on the all-conference first-team award list, his top 10 finish was the first by a Highlander since the 2016 season. A pair of freshmen including Jensen McCutcheon, 23rd individually, and Quinlan Beegle, 33rd individually, helped pace Radford to its top five finish.

Rounding out the Highlanders scoring finishes were Mason Erchull and Khan, good for 126 team points which was 29 points ahead of the next closest team Longwood. Radford was also one of just four teams to have a runner place in the top 10 finishers.

The women would quickly follow using a strong overall team performance to claim their sixth straight season with a top three placement. Magson led the Highlanders finishing sixth overall to earn her spot on the all-conference first-team awards list. Behind her in 15th was Eller who provided some huge points for the Highlanders thanks to a new personal best in the 5k.

The Highlanders kept rolling in strong showings as freshman Allison Nelson set a new PR to place 20th. Mia Farley followed suit with a personal best of her own to finish 24th. Megan Cash rounded out Radford's scoring racers with a 29th-place finish. Cora Gentzel set a personal record in the event, finishing 31st.
