Women’s Cross Country Takes First and Men’s Second in Impressive Showing at Lancer Pink Invitational

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Radford men's and women's cross country programs both had strong showings at the Lancer Pink Invitational Saturday morning with the women's program taking their second straight first-place team finish and the men placing second as a team.

The women's program once again showed out, placing first and ahead of the meet hosts Longwood, taking home their second straight team title. Sophie Magson led the Highlanders, placing second overall and first on the team. Right behind her placing third was Sienna Bailey. Earning some crucial points for the Highlanders top finish came Allison Nelson, Mia Farley and Claire Keefe who all placed sixth, seventh, and eighth, respectively to clinch the team title.

Also getting their first work in on the 5k event this Fall was Cora Gentzel (top 10 finish), Katelyn Campbell, Sadie Martin, and Ruby Ostrander.

The men competed well against the field on their side of the meet, placing second and head of the hosts Longwood. Charlie Dance was the Highlanders top finisher for Radford, earning a seventh-place finish. Freshman Mason Lewis made his debut in the 8k with the Highlanders and placed second on the team. Right behind him was another freshman Quinlan Beegle, followed by Hayat Khan.

Rounding out the Highlanders top five finishers was Jensen McCutcheon. Spencer Thacker, Liam McDonald, Mason Erchull, Owen Sexton and Wyatt Jessup all made their first marks in the 8k event this Fall as well.

The Highlanders cross country programs will be back in action in two weeks' time when they visit Boone, N.C. to compete in the Firetower Project. Hosted by Appalachian State, action will start off at 5:40 p.m. with live stats available through RadfordAthletics.com.
