Potter’s Strong Weekend Earns Big South Freshman of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that Macie Potter has been named the Freshman of the Week after her big weekend helped the Highlanders post a 2-0 record against conference foes.

Potter guided the Highlanders to their first 2-0 road weekend in Big South play since 2018 this past weekend with wins at UNC Asheville and USC Upstate. She averaged a team high 3.88 kills per set while also securing double-doubles in both matches with 11 digs against UNC Asheville and 10 digs against USC Upstate. Her 16 kills against USC Upstate were a season high for the freshman, while adding two aces and a block assist for a season high 18.5 points. Against UNC Asheville, her .379 attack percentage was a season high on just 29 attempts as she hit .284 overall on the weekend, another team high.

The weekly award is the second for the Highlanders this season and the first in Potter's young career. The award is the second for Radford this year after fellow freshman Mia Jannazzo earned Libero of the Week honors. Potter is just the second Highlander since 2020, joined by teammate Olivia Ryno, to earn Freshman of the Week.

Radford opens home Big South play this weekend with a pair of big opponents that are a combined 5-1 through the first three conference dates this season. Action begins on Friday, October 9th at 6:00 p.m. against Winthrop as the team hosts Youth Night and their camper reunion. Radford will also host Gardner-Webb on Saturday, October 10th at 4:00 p.m. for their annual Dig Pink match.
