RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball program and head coach Joe Pound announced Monday afternoon that Molly Jacobson has joined the coaching staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2027 season.
Â
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Radford Softball program," commented Jacobson. "I'm looking forward to building relationships with our players and helping them grow both on and off the field. I'm excited to bring my experiences as both a player and coach to this staff and contribute to the culture Coach Pound is building. I can't wait to get to work!"
Â
Jacobson joins the Highlanders after most recently spending time as an assistant softball coach at the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in Fort Wayne. In just the one season with the Cougars, she was a guiding force helping the team to an impressive 37-13 overall and 29-7 conference record as the team advanced to the NAIA National Championship opening round. Working primarily with the pitching staff, she helped the team finish the season with a 2.89 staff ERA, 3.89 strikeouts per seven, and just a 1.34 WHIP, all improvements from the prior 2025 season.
Â
Jacobson got her coaching career started early as a volunteer coach with nearby Narrows High School during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns during her time as a student-athlete with Virginia Tech. She was a four-year member with the Hokies making 28 appearances with 63.1 innings pitched in her career with a 3.37 ERA. Jacobson would transfer to Wisconsin in 2025 to complete her graduate work where she took on an increased workload with the Badgers. Capping her collegiate career, she tossed 117.1 innings with a 3.64 ERA and 12 wins.
Â
While at Wisconsin, Jacobson would earned NFCA Great Lakes All-Region third team honors. On the field, she also gained experience with student leadership and athlete development working alongside associate head coach and pitching coach Mike Roberts. The Badgers posted a 33-21 record in 2025 and finished with an even 11-11 record in Big 10 play.
Â
Jacobson earned her bachelor's degree in criminology and sociology from Virginia Tech in 2023. In 2025, she earned her master's degree in coaching and sports leadership from Wisconsin.
