HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford volleyball program caught fire late but it wasn't enough as they fell to a tough High Point squad 3-0 Friday night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Maja Bochenek tallied four total blocks, one solo, with a trio of kills on 10 attempts.
After a slow start, Taryn Roberts was able to lead Radford's attacking efforts with eight while Addison Cunnagin had seven.
High Point gained a large advantage on the serve, tallying nine aces to Radford's zero while the Highlanders conceded 11 errors.
High Point also out hit Radford by a wide .375 to .182 margin, but the Highlanders improved well after hitting .000 in the opening set.

THE BREAKDOWN
The first set was one to quickly put in the rear view mirror for Radford as High Point jumped out to a commanding 1-0 lead with a 25-9 finish. Hitting woes were partly why for Radford, but High Point nearly connected on every attack for a .520 attacking clip that allowed the lopsided end to set one.

Radford regrouped, though, and responded well despite the eventual 3-0 final. In set two the Highlanders offense returned to normal and had 14 kills. The offense came from all angles, but Olivia Ryno and Aubrey Hatch led the charge combining for seven kills. Tied up all the way to 10-10, High Point rattled off a 5-1 run for an edge that would last the remainder of the set for a 25-17 set two final.

In set three the Highladners kept battling and came close to forcing a fourth set, something the team hasn't done at High Point since 2019, but came up just short in a 29-27 finish. Roberts came alive in the set for six kills after recording just a pair over the first two sets. As a team, Radford hit .382 and held High Point at just .226 thanks to five blocks.

After falling behind 10-6, the Highlanders roared back to just a 15-14 deficit by the media timeout as Cunnagin, Bochenek and Roberts all tallied kills. Radford would build their biggest lead of the night at 18-17 after a kill from Potter, but a few errors allowed High Point to build a 23-21 lead late that forced a Radford timeout.

The Highlanders would battle back to tie the set at 23-23 after a kill from Roberts and the team went on to thwart three match points by the Panthers and build their own 27-26 lead. A 3-0 Panthers run ended the comeback attempt, however, as High Point held on to seal the 3-0 final.

UP NEXT
The Big South season continues next weekend as Radford sticks to the road for another pair of matches. Radford will first visit UNC Asheville on Friday, October 2nd at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN+ followed by a Saturday road match at USC Upstate on Saturday, October 3rd at 4:00 p.m.
