Cunnagin and Potter Stay Hot, but Volleyball Upended 3-0 at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Radford volleyball program was locked in three tight sets against the weekend hosts Georgia Southern Saturday afternoon, but the team fell in the 3-0 final.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Addison Cunnagin capped her impressive debut with another 10+ kills today, scoring in double figures across all matches this weekend. Her 36 kills already rank fourth most on the team as she averages just over three per set.
The freshman Macie Potter had another strong day with 10 kills on a .241 attacking clip. She has now scored 10 or more kills in five of seven matches played this season. Her seven digs were also second-most on the team.
Alyssa Cadavid split setting duties in the match with Lea Gage and tallied 14 assists to follow up her career-high 23 assists the day before against Eastern Kentucky.
Radford's offense was solid throughout, but Georgia Southern gained a major edge hitting .446, almost double the previous highest attack percentage by a Radford opponent this season.

PLAY BY PLAY
Both teams would hit a strong rate throughout the first set as Georgia Southern set their tone for the match on the attacking end outhitting Radford .447 to .316. Kills by Cunnagin and Taryn Roberts paced Radford early, but the team trailed by a small margin as both teams traded points.

Down 16-11 out of the media timeout, a Cunnagin kill and a pair of service errors pulled Radford back within reach. Kills from Roberts and Aubrey Hatch made it just an 18-16 deficit. Georgia Southern and Radford would go back to trading points, however, forcing a Radford timeout down 23-19. Kills from Cunnagin and Greene helped tighten the score late, but the Eagles were able to hold on to take set on 25-22.

In the second set the offensive attack on both ends continued to fire with ease. Potter and Cunnagin would add five more kills apiece on the Highlanders end, but the Eagles once again were able to take advantage of a .378 attack percentage that resulted in 21 kills, and 21 of their 27 points.

Early on both squads traded scores as Radford's offense moved through Cunnagin, Gage and Potter for kills. Neither team would move further than two points away from the other leading to a deadlocked 22-22 score late. Cunnagin got two big kills late, including one that set the team up for the potential set ahead 25-24, but the Eagles responded with three unanswered to escape set two 27-25.

In that final third set, Radford would build an early lead and hold it right before the media timeout where a 6-2 run gave the Eagles back a 15-14 edge. That run extended through the media timeout all the way to a 20-14 lead, an 11-2 run overall. The Highlanders would struggle to find answers down the stretch as Georgia Southern would continue to pile up the kills until an eventual 25-20 third set and take the match 3-0.
