Christofer C. Catterson, M.D.

Dr. Christofer Catterson serves as the orthopedic surgeon on the sports medicine staff and is responsible for the orthopedic care for all Radford University athletes after joining the staff in 2013. His current academic responsibilities include being an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine where he routinely gives lectures, is involved in research projects, and is a clinical preceptor to medical students and primary care sports medicine fellows. Dr. Catterson is fellowship trained in orthopedic sports medicine and arthroscopy.

Prior to Radford, while completing his orthopedic surgical residency, he was the resident team physician for Duquesne University, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Pittsburgh Pirates assisting with orthopedic care for the Pirates in-season and at spring training in Bradenton, Florida.  During his sports medicine fellowship, he cared for professional athletes from the NFL, MLB, MLS, PGA Tour, and NFL Europe. He was the team physician for Samford University and assistant team physician for Auburn University. Dr. Catterson joined Carilion Clinic in 2013 and has also been the team orthopedic surgeon for Virginia Tech since 2016.

Dr. Catterson earned his bachelor’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University before attending medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania having served as Chief Resident. Dr. Catterson then completed an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Ala. 

Dr. Catterson grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa. He and his wife, Natalie, have known each other since kindergarten and have three children. As a family they enjoy golfing, soccer, skiing, and traveling.
