RADFORD OPENS SPRING BREAK TRIP WITH 5-1 WIN AT GEORGE WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Radford began its five-match “Spring Break” trip through the Northeast with a 5-1 non-conference men's tennis victory over George Washington Saturday afternoon at Montclair Country Club.

The Highlanders (2-4) clinched their second straight dual triumph by winning five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

Shortly after Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) recorded a convincing 6-2, 6-0 decision at the top spot, sophomore Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School) gave Radford an early 2-0 lead with a straight-set win over Chris Pushma, 6-1, 6-4.

Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury), the two-time Big South Freshman of the Week, ran his singles winning streak to four with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on the second court.

George Washington's (1-6) lone singles victory came from Eric Hannah (6-2, 6-3) at the No. 4 position.

Leading 3-1 with the last two singles matches in progress, Radford's Paul Boslet (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) secured the team win with his first victory of the season, a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Richard Blumenfeld.

Freshman Erik Finkenbrink (Duelman, Germany / Annette Gymnasium) capped off singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the sixth spot to extend the Highlanders' lead to their final margin.

With the dual already in hand, the two teams decided not to complete to the doubles portion.

Radford will continue its 13-match swing away from home to begin the 2010 spring campaign with an 11 a.m. contest at Princeton Sunday morning.
