LYNCHBURG, Va. – Despite Igor Ogrizek's team-leading 16th singles win and a pair of victories from Thomas Dehaen, Radford fell to Liberty 4-3 in Big South men's tennis action Saturday afternoon.
In addition to suffering their seventh one-point setback of the season, the Highlanders dropped their first conference regular season dual since 2007 while falling to 10-10 overall and 4-1 in the league. With the win, the Flames improve to 11-7 and 3-1.
Liberty grabbed the early 1-0 advantage by winning the final two doubles matches. Radford's lone doubles victory came from Ivan Salec and Dehaen, who improved to 15-1 with their 11th straight triumph.
In singles action, four of the six matches went the distance with each club winning two.
The Flames stretched their advantage to 3-0 with singles victories from Siim Tuus and Chad Simpson.
Shortly after Erik Finkenbrink cut the deficit to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Juan Reyes on court three, Louis Steyn edged Zack Watson 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Flames.
With the match already decided, Dehaen and Ogrizek put the final points on the board for the Highlanders with three-set wins on courts two and three, respectively.
