STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Ivana Tomaic of the Radford women's tennis team took home the Flight B one-on-one doubles tournament title on the final day of the Fourth Annual Seawolves Classic, this weekend.
One-on-one doubles is a new innovative game that Ed Krass founded which is the first alternative, competitive format of singles and doubles; the entire game is cross court and can only use half the court. Also, you have to service and volley on every single point.
Tomaic defeated Stefanie Ton (Navy) in the first round, 6-5, before defeating Salome Mkervalidze (Stony Brook) with a 6-4 victory. After defeating Taysha Blessington (Long Island), 6-2, she secured the title in the championship round with a 6-2 win over Egzona Morina (Fairleigh Dickinson).
In singles competition, Tomiac advanced to the championship round of the flight B, but Manuela Leme (Fairleigh Dickinson) went ahead to secure the title with a 8-5 victory. Both, Senior Sara Tegner and junior Petra Dajevic advanced two rounds in Flights C and A, respectively.
In Flight A of the doubles tournament, after having a bye in the first round, Emerald Lauzon and Dajevic recorded a 9-8 win over Elizabeth Piscitelli/Jenai Bilmoria (Lehigh) to advance to the third round.
