MEN’S TENNIS EXTENDS STREAK, KNOCKS OFF MEMPHIS, 5-2

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Radford continued its impressive play with a 5-2 victory over Memphis in non-conference men's tennis action at Tulane's Goldring Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

The Highlanders improve to 9-3 overall, while Memphis, which was ranked as high as 53rd in the ITA Rankings earlier this season, falls to 8-6.

Clinging to a 3-2 advantage, Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt) extended Radford's winning streak to five straight with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 decision at the fourth singles position. It was also the freshman's eighth consecutive win as he improved to 9-3 on the spring.

With the doubles portion tied at one win apiece, Radford's top duo of Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) and Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) clinched the team point with an 8-6 decision to improve to 26-3 since teaming up a year ago.

The Highlanders other doubles victory came from Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School) and Meulemans, 8-3, on court two.

Shortly after Memphis' Joe Salisbury tied the dual, 1-1, Radford responded with straight-set wins from Salec (6-2, 6-3) and Dehaen (6-2, 6-2) at positions one and five, respectively, to go in front, 3-1.

Ranked 67th in the nation, Salec moved to a team-best 9-1 in 2011.

Paul Boslet (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) recorded the Highlanders' final singles victory on court six and upped his record to 6-0 since being inserted into the starting lineup five matches ago.

Radford will conclude its “Spring Break” trip with a 1 p.m. contest at Tulane Saturday.
