BLACKSBURG, Va. – Despite doubles and singles victories from freshmen Hannah Crawford and Meg Napolitano, Radford fell to Elon, 5-2, in non-conference women's tennis action Friday evening at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.
The Phoenix grabbed the early 1-0 advantage by claiming two of the three doubles matches. Radford's lone win came from the first-year duo of Crawford and Napolitano, who cruised by Barbora Lazarova and Bryn Khoury, 8-1, on court two.
In singles, Elon (2-1) won four of the six matches in straight sets.
Crawford and Napolitano carried their momentum into the singles competition, recording the Highlanders only two points of the dual. Crawford defeated Frida Jansaker, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 3 position, while Napolitano held off Camara Ruiz, 6-4, 7-5, to also remain undefeated on the spring.
Radford (1-1) will return to the courts tomorrow afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. match at East Tennessee State.
