FIGHTING CAMEL CLASSIC CONCLUDES FALL SLATE FOR WOMEN’S GOLF

RADFORD, Va. – Coming off its third Top-10 showing in four outings, the Radford women's golf team finishes off its fall slate Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 22-23) at the 18th-annual Fighting Camel Classic hosted by Campbell on the Orange and Black courses of the par 72, 6,026-yard Keith Hill Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C.
The 12-team field includes the Highlanders, the host and 39th-ranked Camels, 68th-ranked Cal-State Fullerton, Gardner-Webb, Longwood, 62nd-ranked Old Dominion, Richmond, second-ranked Rollins (Division II), St. Francis (Pa.), Towson, Wichita State and Winthrop. Campbell won its home event for the 13th time and fourth straight last fall.
Heading the Radford lineup will be Alexandra Austin, who owns the 19th-best stroke average in the rugged Big South at 76.4. Austin has three Top-10 showings to her credit this fall, including a runner-up performance at the season-opening Bison Intercollegiate.
Locking down the No. 2 spot is Hayley Hammond, who tied for 16th to lead the Highlanders at the CSU Wendy's Invitational. Hammond, who is rated 20th in the Big South with her 76.6 scoring average, will be gunning for her second Top-20 finish in Buies Creek.
Paige Reese and Kirsty Condon will be playing No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, for RU. Reese was the second-best 54-hole score for the Highlanders last week with a 235 (76-77-82) to finish tied for 29th. Condon tied for the best round by a Radford golfer this fall when the junior fired an even-par 72 in the second round last tournament.
Teeing off in the fifth spot will be Katie Parrott, who is coming off a career-best performance. The freshman had a breakout tournament in the Palmetto State, logging a career-best 54-hole total of 241. She returned a career-low 2-over-par 74 to the clubhouse to lead the Highlanders in the final round.
Radford is paired with Towson and St. Francis (Pa.) for Monday's 36-hole portion of the tournament, which has an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The 54-hole event wraps up with the final 18 Tuesday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Click here to follow live scoring of the Fighting Camel Classic provided by Golfstat.
