FOUR-RUN SIXTH KEYS LEAGUE-OPENING WIN AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Freshman Jackie Warr recorded three hits and Radford Softball used a four-run sixth to open up Big South play with a 6-3 victory at defending champion Liberty, Wednesday afternoon from Liberty Softball Field.
Warr got things rolling for Radford in the sixth with a double to the gap in left center. She would score the game-tying run on a sac fly by senior Hannah Ojeda. The Highlanders (13-8, 1-0 Big South) took the lead for good with two outs on a two-run error by the shortstop. Sophomore Jessie Hutchens capped off the frame with a RBI double to right center.
Warr finished a season-best 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Hutchens also registered two of Radford's season-high 10 hits. Junior Jackie Jenkins (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) earned the complete game win. She scattered seven hits and did not walk or strike out a batter to improve to 5-2.
After stranding five runners in the second and third innings, Radford found paydirt with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to grab a 2-0 lead.
Warr produced the first run of the game in the fourth. She led off with a single, stole second and third on back-to-back pitches then scooted home when the throw was misplayed by the third baseman.
In the fifth, senior Nichole Beall led off with a double to the fence in right and freshman Micalah Sacre followed with liner off the third baseman's glove for a RBI single and two-run advantage.
A leadoff home run by Kaylee West and a two-run, two out long ball by Meredith Crisante gave the Lady Flames (6-13, 0-1) a brief 3-2 lead after five complete.
Radford didn't let the lead last for long as it put up the four-spot, which included four hits and was aided by the two-out error.
Liberty tried to put a two-out rally together in the seventh, but Radford's defense ended it catching the runner at third in a rundown to end the contest.
The Highlanders will make a quick turnaround hosting Appalachian State tomorrow in a single game at 4 p.m.
