WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO WINTHROP, 6-1

RADFORD, Va. – Despite Taylor Newman's three-set win on court five, Radford fell to Winthrop, 6-1, in Big South women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.
With the setback the Highlanders fall to 14-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while the Eagles improve to 10-10 and 6-0.
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead after sweeping the doubles portion.
Winthrop extended their lead to 3-0 with wins from Yasmine Alkema and Andressa Garcia on courts one and two, respectively.
Sandra Herrera clinched the match-winning point for the Eagles with a win over Mia Drobnjak at the No. 3 singles position, 7-5, 6-2.
With the match already decided, Winthrop also got singles victories from Giovanna Portiolli and Monica Aguado.
Radford returns to the courts Friday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. dual at North Carolina Central.
