RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's golf team will set out for the 2012 Big South Women's Golf Championship Apr. 9-11, held at The Patriot Club in Greenwood, S.C.
The Patriot Club is hosting the Big South Women's Golf Championship for the sixth time, as it held the event in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The 2012 Big South Women's Golf Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting begins this weekend with a practice round on Sunday, April 8. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played April 9-11. The Highlanders will tee off between 8:45-9:21 a.m.,
Currently at 311, Radford is six shots ahead of last year's school-record pace (317) in stroke average. The team has five Top-10 finishes and is recently coming off a season-best runner-up showing at Hilton Head.
Alexandra Austin will lead the Highlanders into the season finale. Austin possesses the Big South's fifth best stroke average (76.1) and has been Radford's top finisher in three out of four tournaments this spring. She is fresh off a career-best third-place finish at the Low Country Intercollegiate. She has six rounds at or under 73, including a career-low 69 in the third round of the Spider Invitational.
Jade Okamoto will look to make an impact in her last tournament as a Highlander. The two-time Big South Women's Golfer of the Week during 2011-12 also ranks in the Top-10 in scoring average amongst league golfers with her 77.0 average. She also has four rounds at or below 73 and has recorded three Top-10 showings this year. She possesses Radford's top finish this year, a career-best showing at the Bison Invitational (2nd).
Additional factors on the Radford team scorecard this year have been Kirsty Condon and Paige Reese. Condon has led Radford in two events, the CSU Wendy's Invitational and the Wofford Dual. Reese closed the fall finishing second among Radford players in the Wofford Dual and also opened the spring with the same result at the Edwin Watts Kiawah's Island Invitational.
Joining Okamoto in wrapping up her four-year career at Radford will be Amy McCollum. The senior is well ahead of her career-best stroke average and is coming off a solid Low Country Intercollegiate, where she tied for 32nd.
