RADFORD, Va. – Coming off its first break since the start of the season, a busy weekend awaits the Radford women's golf team in the Palmetto State.
The Highlanders first travel to Ninety Six, S.C. for Saturday's 18-hole Big South Preview at The Patriot Golf Club. They will play 18 holes with conference rivals High Point, Gardner-Webb and Campbell on the course where April's 2014 Big South Women's Golf Championship will be contested. A shotgun start is slated for noon.
Following play on Saturday, RU ventures east to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. for the CSU Wendy's Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern. The two-day, 54-hole tournament takes place Oct. 7-8 at Rivertowne Country Club.
Alexandra Austin was the low-scoring Highlander at the Myrtle Beach Invitational, the team's previous tournament. The junior fired a score of 160 (82-78) over the two days to finish tied for 16th.
Kirsty Condon finished one shot behind at 161 (81-80) to tie for 18th, and Hayley Hammond was one shot behind her at 162 (80-82) to place 20th. Paige Reese ended up tied for 24th at 165 (86-79), while freshman Olivia Jay carded a 166 (82-84) to tie for 26th.
The fourth place team finish was RU's third top-5 showing of the season in as many starts. The Highlanders will be competing against the host Buccaneers, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Presbyterian College, Richmond, Tennessee Tech, Towson, USC-Beaufort, USC Upstate and Wofford for the title at Rivertowne.
Play begins Monday morning with a shotgun start consisting of 36 holes. The tournament winner will be crowned Tuesday after the final 18 holes. Scoring can be tracked live via Golfstat by following the link here.
