ORLANDO, Fla. – Radford matched the warm temperatures in Orlando, Fla. Monday with its play on the court, defeating Robert Morris, 6-1, in nonconference women's tennis action at Star Island Resort.
Meg Napolitano and Grace Sarver got the day started with an 8-1 triumph over Diana Mireceta and Alina Schibol of the Colonials (1-6) on court two. RMU evened the doubles competition at the No. 3 position when Carolina Teixeira and Dounia Zinbi prevailed, 8-2, over Taylor Fay and Gisela Garcia.
Moments later, Taylor Newman and Gemma Valls clinched the doubles point for the Highlanders (2-6) when they cruised to an 8-1 win over Marie-Sophie Heine and Larissa Kiyoku at the top flight.
Despite not playing in doubles, Sara Andrade immediately made an impact in singles by winning her match (6-1, 6-0) in the sixth slot over Kourtney Passero. Garcia increased Radford's advantage to 3-0 when she dispatched Zinbi (6-0, 6-1) at the fifth spot.
Valls delivered the dual-clinching point on court two when she defeated Heine (6-2, 6-1). In addition to Valls, Napolitano and Sarver also went 2-0 on the day following their respective singles victories.
After a day of practice tomorrow, the Highlanders return to action Wednesday for a pair of duals. Minnesota State and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are scheduled to clash with Radford at 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
