CONWAY, S.C. – Radford's winning ways came to an end Monday morning as Coastal Carolina handed the Highlanders a 5-2 Big South women's tennis loss at Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Chanticleers (17-4, 5-2 Big South) swept doubles action to stake a 1-0 edge. After Coastal tallied the first singles point, Grace Sarver brought the Highlanders (8-10, 3-4 Big South) within 2-1 behind her team-best 15th victory of the season. Sarver cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Romane Delay at the fourth flight.
Needing only two points to clinch the decision, the Chants claimed wins on courts one and two to seal the deal.
Meg Napolitano added the Highlanders' other point at No. 6, outlasting Kourtney Kowal 4-6, 6-3, 5-4 (8-6). The two were tied at 4 in the third set when the team result was decided, therefore, they played a seven-point tiebreaker to determine the winner.
Radford returns home to host Winthrop at 1 p.m. Wednesday. That match marks the first of three the Highlanders will play this week at the Radford University Tennis Complex to close the regular season.
