HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katelyn Layden smashed a match-high 18 kills and Campbell hit .253 en route to advancing to its first Big South volleyball tournament championship match in program history following a 3-1 win over Radford Friday night inside the Millis Center in High Point, N.C.
- With the fourth frame tied at 21, the Highlanders were poised to send the semifinal match into a fifth set. However, the Camels strung together four straight points, with the final two coming from Layden's arm, to catapult them into Sunday's title match against top seed Coastal Carolina.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Maddie Palmer did all she could to keep RU in it, delivering 14 kills and 14 digs for her 13th double-double of the season.
- Megan Short tallied 12 kills in her final match as a Highlander, swinging .348 in the process. She finished the season with a .397 attack percentage, which is an RU single-season record.
- Short was named to the Big South all-tournament team.
- Kelby Jackson led four Radford players in double-digit digs with 20. It was her sixth match of the season with at least 20 digs.
- Haley Kleespies dished out 39 assists to go along with five digs.
- RU ended the match with a 75-73 edge in the digs department.
- Mary Crema and Summer Schuitema contributed 28 and 23 digs, respectively, for the Camels.
UP NEXT
- Fourteen Highlanders are set to return for Radford in 2016.
- RU will lose starters Savanna Burton, Cheyanne James and Megan Short to graduation.
