FOY’S FREE THROWS FEND OFF CHARLESTON SOUTHERN IN CLOSING SECONDS

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Aisha Foy connected on 11 of 12 free throws in the second stanza, including 10 straight down the stretch to lift Radford to a 64-57 road victory over Charleston Southern in Big South women's basketball action Saturday afternoon inside the Buc Dome.
Despite shooting below her season average from the floor, Foy scorched the charity stripe for 12 of her game-high 19 points. The junior guard knocked down 85.7 percent (12-14) of her attempts from the free-throw line in her 38 minutes of action. Foy was the Highlanders' only double-figure scorer.
"I just cannot say enough about Aisha and her growth and development as a basketball player," head coach Mike McGuire said about his point guard. "She is an incredible leader on and off the court. I think we have become a better basketball team in a lot of ways because of her. In my opinion, she is one of the best point guards in the Big South."
Foy directed an offense that shot 42.2 percent from the hardwood and scored 22 points in the paint. Ayana Avery and Claudia Quevedo each drilled a pair of 3-pointers en route to eight points apiece. Jordynn Gaymon and Janayla White combined for 18 of the Highlanders' 38 rebounds.
With the win, Radford (15-10, 12-4 Big South) clinched a first-round bye in the Big South women's basketball tournament, meaning the Highlanders will not play until Thursday, March 5. Additionally, RU's 12 conference wins tie the program record for most league victories in a single season.
"I am proud of our team," McGuire said. "Anytime you go on the road and win, especially in conference play, it's big. This win is big for our program. To clinch a first-round bye and tie our program's record for most conference wins are two huge accomplishments for us."
Similar to Tuesday night against Longwood, the Highlanders built a comfortable lead, but saw their opposition mount a late rally to make things interesting. Radford, which led by 15 points midway through the second half, had its lead trimmed to six with 30 seconds remaining. From there, Foy converted 5 of 6 free throws to secure the Highlanders' 12th victory in their last 14 games.
Alyssa Mann led the Buccaneers (5-20, 1-15 Big South) with 17 points, followed by Shauntavia Dobson's 13. CSU shot 35.6 percent (21-59) from the floor and just 13.3 percent (2-15) from long range. The Bucs were tied for second in the league with RU in 3-pointers made per game (5.4) entering the day.
Radford, which has a one-game lead over Campbell for second place in the Big South standings, returns to the Palmetto State for Tuesday's 7 p.m. showdown with Winthrop inside Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, S.C.
